What is a Rube Goldberg machine?

A Rube Goldberg machine is a machine that takes a very complicated route to perform a relatively simple task.  Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist and inventor.  His cartoons were famous for having complex machines accomplishing simple tasks.  His cartoons have sparked interest from inventors and have spawned numerous Rube Goldberg machines and competitions.  Our blog hopes to highlight these machines as well as document our quest to build our own Rube Goldberg Machine.
